一、提高听课效率
高中生在校时大约有70%以上的时间都是在课堂上度过的，所以听讲就是学生学习的中心环节。而要提高听课效率首先必须有强烈的求知欲，还要做到课前预习，上课集中精力，记好课堂笔记，积极参与课堂发言和讨论，而课后及时复习，独立完成作业，总结学习心得，填补听课盲点，也是让听课效率切实落实的保证。
二、纠正语音错误
英语的音标如同汉语的拼音，是英语发音的基础。但由于各种原因而没能在小学和初中阶段掌握音标的正确发音的学生，应该在进入高中之后抓紧时间通过正规音像资料或老师、同学的帮助纠正自己的错误发音，为高中阶段英语的听、说、读、写能力的提高提供必备的条件。
三、重视词汇的积累和语法知识的掌握
高中阶段是英语词汇大量增加及普及系统语法知识的阶段。而词汇是任何语言的基础，其重要性犹如砖瓦之于高楼，语法则是其骨架。只有掌握了大量的词汇和清晰的.语法体系，才可能真正学好英语。
对词的掌握，具体体现在对其“音”、“形”(拼写及形式)、“义”(词义)、“性”(词性)、“能”(搭配功能与语法属性)的掌握。
至于高中语法的学习，建议每人选购一本适合自己水平的由权威机构出版发行的语法书，先系统地通读，再结合平时练习加以巩固。
四、坚持每天阅读英文读物
要学好外语，阅读非常重要。经常进行英文阅读，既能满足高中阶段巩固和扩大词汇量的要求，又能增强英语语感。因此，建议每天坚持阅读英语书刊半个小时。现在可供高中生阅读的英语素材很多，如：《二十一世纪》、《疯狂英语》及《书虫》系列等。对没有英文阅读习惯的人而言，刚开始时可能感觉比较吃力，慢慢就会适应了。阅读时不要过分专注英文语言本身，可以像读武侠小说一样看内容情节。
对实在不懂得地方，也不妨“不求甚解”，关键是要培养语感，长期坚持。
