Lasting friendship
SOFTLY counting "one, two, three", then stretching (伸展) one arm and then shouting "Hello, we are Shinhwa!" Just like this, they have spent 10 years together.
Even with the passage of time, Shinhwa is still Shinhwa. There are still the six of them, Eric's still the leader and Shin Hyesung is still the main vocalist (主唱). It's hard to find any idol (偶像) group in which there hasn't been any change of members over such a long period of time. Shinhwa said the motivation (动力) that has pushed them on for such a long time is "our trust in each other".
As the longest-running group in South Korea, they held their 10th anniversary (周年纪念) concerts at Seoul Olympic Park on March 29 and 30. These were their last concerts before they go for military service (服军役). The band will release their last album under the name of "Shinhwa" next month.
However, the reason why Shinhwa attracts so much attention isn't just because they've been around for so long. This doesn't have that much to do with how popular they are or how good their music is, either. As a matter of fact, it's a contradictory (矛盾的) relationship between Shinhwa and their fans. Shinhwa doesn't have a song that could let people sing along easily. Their main tracks (歌曲) are always dance songs with quick beats and powerful rhythms (节奏). Their complicated (复杂的) dances are hard to follow.
But for their fans, the six men are more idols than singers.
"Shinhwa means hip to me. These guys gave me the opportunity to know what being is all about," wrote one of Shinhwa' fans in her blog.
