  The customs of Christmas

Welcome to CustomsOfChristmas.com where we explore the origins of our Christmas customs and traditions.

Christmas customs can be more enjoyable when children get involved in the Christmas planning. This year sit down with your children. Listen to their ideas. Incorporate them into your Christmas celebration. Their faces will beam with pride knowing that they helped make this Christmas the best Christmas ever.

Consider adding some of these events to your Christmas customs:

Count down to Christmas with our online advent calendar featuring the Cinnamon Bear.

Decorate your Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. Use prelit artificial Christmas trees to avoid the hassles of stringing your own lights.

Bake cookies together as a family.

This Christmas decorate your home with Christmas Villages collectibles.

Christmas is one of the most beautiful holidays of all time. It is the day when God's son was born on earth. Hence, this day is sacred for all Christians around the world. The Christmas season gives rise to a number of Christmas traditions that come along. Here are a few of them that are celebrated with zest and enthusiasm worldwide for centuries.

  Christmas in England

In Britain, Christmas Day is normally spent at home, with the family, andit is regarded as a celebration of the family and its continuity. Preparationsstart well in advance, with the sending of Christmas cards and installation of adecorated Christmas tree in a prominent place in the home. Although it is now afirmly established tradition, the Christmas tree was first popularised by QueenVictoria’s husband, Prince Albert, who introduced the custom from his nativeGermany in 1840.

Some houses are decorated with evergreens (plants which do not lose theirleaves in winter); a wreath of holly on the front door and garlands of holly, ivy and fir indoors. Bunches of mistletoe are often hung above doorways - anycouple passing underneath must exchange kisses! Traditional food is prepared:sweet mince pies, a rich Christmas cake and the Christmas pudding. Everyone hastheir own favourite recipe, but they’re all packed full of spices, nuts, driedfruit and brandy. Presents are bought and wrapped, and traditionally placed under theChristmas tree on Christmas Eve. Christmas is both a secular and a religiousholiday, and many families like to attend a midnight service at church onChristmas Eve, or celebrate Christmas in church on Christmas morning.

The excitement begins for children on Christmas Eve, when they hang uptheir stockings (an old sock or, more ambitiously, pillow cases) around thefireplace or at the foot of the bed for Father Christmas to fill with presents. The English Father Christmas or Santa Claus is first recorded in his traditionalred and white outfit in a woodcut of 1653, but the story of Santa arriving inhis reindeer-drawn sleigh and descending down the chimney to fill children’sstockings with presents derives from the USA.

  On Christmas Day

December 25th is Christmas Day. On Christmas Day, many people will have big parties. They like eating turkey(火鸡), fruits and drinking some juice for supper. After supper, many people will go out for shopping and walking (walk) with their children. There are a lot of special things: Christmas trees, socks, Christmas card and some presents. So in Christmas Day, all the families are very happy.

Christmas tree is one of the old traditionnal festival. Usually the people make around the Christmas an evergreen plant,as pine tree , with Christmas lamp and the colored widget decoration in the room or in the outdoors, at last, put an angel or the star on the top of the tree.
