  Two faces of Beyonce

  BEYONCé, Sasha Fierce

BEYONCé, Sasha Fierce or Queen B – whatever name you choose to call her, one thing is for sure: This 27-year-old certainly knows how to make her fans crazy in love with her.

The US R&B talent is currently busy touring the world with her third album, I Am...Sasha Fierce. Wherever she goes, she makes it clear to her fans at the sold-out venues (场所) that their money is worth (值得) it.

I Am... is a two-disc set. One is the work of "Beyoncé", who is soft and romantic, the other her alter ego (另一个自己), "Sasha Fierce", who is proud and aggressive (强势的). The album's opening song, If I Were A Boy, about her feelings that men live completely different lives from women, was number 1 in the UK singles chart (单曲榜) for weeks.

Beyoncé's new music offers a rare insight (领悟) into the two sides of the pop star. "I Am… is about who I am underneath (在……下面) all the makeup, the lights and all the exciting drama," she explained during an interview.

In real life, Beyoncé has been working hard to prove herself. After a huge success with the girl group Destiny's Child, she had her first album Dangerously In Love that earned her five Grammy Awards in 2004. In a history-making moment, Beyoncé sang the song At Last to Barack Obama and his wife Michelle for their first dance after his inauguration (就职典礼) in January.

Beyoncé is not just a singer, she's also known for her acting. You may have seen her in the movie Dreamgirls.

The singer-turned-actress has her eye on the goal of winning an Oscar. She says the dream motivates (激发) her to stay in shape.

"I'm not one of those people who don't have to work at it," she says. "I can't eat what I want, and I have to go to the gym … There are no quick, easy secrets. The truth is, it's a lot of sacrifices (牺牲), like giving up ice cream."

  New girls on the block

FOLLOWING the success of S.H.E and Twins, another girl band has arrived on the music scene (场景). Seventeen-year-old Singaporean twin sisters Yumi and Miko Bai create the magic behind the music in the band BY2.

The pair, whose name "BY2" comes from their surname (姓) Bai, recently released (发行) their second album, Twins. With great voices and dance moves to match, the cute sisters have won the hearts of many fans since their first album NC-16 (《16未成年》) came out last year.

At a young age, the sisters began to learn ballet (芭蕾) dancing and the violin. When a music company wanted to work with them, the girls had to leave their home and parents to go to Taiwan for training.

Miko and Yumi dropped out of school to focus (专心) on their music. This decision caused a hot debate (争论) in Singapore. Some people said that their mother was using her daughters to make money. But their father, who died of cancer (癌症) when they were 15 years old, had encouraged the girls to work hard to make their dreams come true.

The girls felt lonely in Taiwan when they first arrived. "We celebrated our birthday in Taiwan without any family and friends," Yumi said. "We cut our birthday cake ourselves."

The girls faced many challenges. "We had to learn Mandarin (普通话). Also, it was a killer to dance in high heels," said the twins, who had to do so in their music videos.

However, they are glad that they entered the entertainment scene at an early age. "When we are younger, we learn things faster and can gain (获得) more experience," Yumi said.
